Intensive
In-Home Treatment
All teams are directly supervised by a case supervisor
and the Executive Director. TYAP provides and trains all
therapists. When the child begins to attend preschool or
kindergarten, one-to-one hours will continue as needed, but
may be modified to accommodate school hours received.
The child’s level of progress will determine the appropriate
type of school or school program in which s/he should be initially
introduced (e.g., regular education, special education, etc.).
Choosing the appropriate school setting is important in enhancing
the child’s continued success in school. TYAP assists
in choosing the appropriate school setting, and provides an
aide, or "shadow" to accompany the child to school
in order to facilitate interactions within the classroom.
Typically, the child will require at least 1 year of in-home
one-on-one treatment prior to beginning school to allow the
teaching and mastery of basic self-help, language, play,
social, and imitative skills, enabling him or her to take
full advantage of a generalized group environment.
Age-Appropriate Therapy Requirements
The recommended program is intensive, and is modified based
on the child’s age at the time of treatment implementation.
Younger children would receive fewer one-to-one treatment
hours, while older children would receive more, up to 35-40
hours per week by age 3 ½ to 4 years. Treatment
schedules are determined based on each child’s individual
abilities and needs
Treatment duration can range from one to three (or more)
years, with the average child needing at least 2 years
of intensive treatment.
