Day Treatment Center

For those children ready to learn in a more school-like environment, the TYAP Day Treatment Center provides on-site behavioral intervention for children with autism. A combination of one-to-one and small group therapy is optimized for each child. Individual programs tailored to each childs abilities are implemented in discrete trial format.

The DTC setting allows the inclusion of additional skill-building in areas such as social interaction, school readiness and self-help. Treatment is provided by a team of TYAP therapists directly supervised by a Case Supervisor and the Executive Director.

For children needing more intensive intervention, the Intensive Center program is available. Thirty hours per week of direct one-to-one therapy by an assigned team of therapists can increase the rate of progress while giving the child the skills needed to learn in a less structured setting.

Parents are an important part of the DTC programs. Parent training helps ensure consistency for the child across environments and promotes generalization of learned skills to the home and community. Continual feedback on the childs goals and progress toward those goals is provided to parents. Frequent scheduled meetings with the Executive Director to review and discuss the childs goals, progress and prognosis are an additional element in the working relationship between TYAP and the family.

The ultimate goal at the DTC is to transition the child successfully into school. To this end,as the child nears school readiness, DTC staff will assist parents in identifying appropriate schools and will work with the child and the school to ensure a successful transition.
